It is with deep sadness that I share that my best friend and mentor, **[Glen Bennett](https://www.linkedin.com/in/glen-bennett-9274a14/)** , passed away on June 16, at 63 years old. He brought his background in watercolor painting into his compositing work, elevating it to an artistic level that few could match. He comped what some thought impossible. And was also one of the first people to use Autodesk Flame when it first came out. Glen is and always will be a legend, an overall powerhouse of resilience and no stranger to the grueling hours of the VFX industry. We all know this business can take a toll on oneself. Take that break. Go for a walk. Decompress and ask for more help if needed. This industry has lost too many skilled artists over the years to the demands of unreasonable deadlines. I was so shocked when I heard this, I’ve known Glenn since we were both Harry ops in the '80s in soho, he at SVC and me at MPC. ---

At the time I don’t think I had seen Glen since we worked together at SeaLevel years ago. We agreed that we shouldn’t let so much time pass without a hang—that we weren’t getting any younger. We only just recently talked and he sent me over a job he couldn’t handle because of a difficult job he was on. He lived to the fullest. ---

I grew up with Glen we were kids in Cheddar, Somerset together - came to London at the same time and ended up doing the same job. Didnt get to see him much after he moved to LA, but we did seem to have our yearly booze up when he came to London. He will be greatly missed. ---

The last time I spoke with Glen was just after Jonny Hicks passed during Covid. Too long ago now. We were on a zoom for more than an hour reminiscing and catching up on that friendship that we share beneath years of working together in the trauma of late night vfx front lines we all remember so well. Life is for living and Glen was of the people I’ve met that lived it unapologetically. ---
