Burn In Metadata Source Frame Issue

I think I have asked some version of this question before but I don’t think it was this specific issue.

I have a shot that is reversed on the timeline, source clip is not, timecode is counting down, etc.

I have Burn In Metadata on the an empty layer above everything to make a ref for the producers with two things on, the source clip name and Frame set to Source Media, so why are the frame numbers on this clip counting up? The clip is reversed and I can tell that from both the timecode on the EXRs and visually so is it just making numbers up? I’m suddenly very nervous about these “refs” i’m making.

Sorry, Flame 2027.

Use BFX

I know

This is anathemic to me

But this is making reference files which are ultimately disposable garbage.

But this will solve your issue

Be diligent

Fascinating, i’ll take a look

In BFX add a burn in metadata Which will count up

Feed that into your reverse tw

Do not do do a timeline metadata burn in

Let it all happen in the BFX

Good grief

I despise BFX

Honestly it’s bizarre that flame can’t just take the frame number off the file it is currently displaying on screen and just pipe it into a text field. It doesn’t need to do anything fancy just take that number and put it on screen. The End.

Well actually that’s not strictly true.

Metadata is your friend if you are reading source files.

Transcodes frequently jettison the useful stuff.

Sure, but I feel pretty sure the files in this image sequence have a frame number and that flame understands it enough to put the files in order. All it needs to do is also display it.

I’m pretty sure that burnin metadata can lift the source image frame number in 2027, but its kind of an oversight that this does not update accordingly in timeline Fx

It’s that pesky order of operations stuff

But BFX will get you there

I think I just choked a little

There is a custom start time option and a reverse option. You can manually set the start time to be the last frame number and set it to run backwards. In the attached frame I have it set to start counting backwards from the last frame, which was 39.
