Hello Logik

Does the lens flare node inside Action works over linear footage? I tried using it but it looks quite pale (almost transparent).

If it works I should be skipping something.

Thanks!

@julioleon - are the individual image components of the lensflare linear? or perhaps they are rec709?
(I don’t use them so I haven’t checked.)

I am using the default lens flares. I guess the elements are Rec709…

@julioleon - is it possible in your workflow to convert your footage to rec709 before the action, and convert back to scene linear after the action output?
Obviously, it may be more complex, depending on interactivity of the flare with your footage layers…

Will try this. Thanks @philm

@julioleon - I’m guessing that it might also be useful to convert lens flare elements to linear and keep your footage as is.

I use flares all the time and view transform bg to acescg, make the flare in action, comp outside in batch comp mode (for adding blurs and stuff before), then view transform that back to rec. Action flares are made for and perform best in linear/acescg.
I’m only a recent and previously reluctant convert.

Yes @GPM, I changed the background as LinearCG and now the lens flare renders properly. Thanks!

I use action light rays a lot too, but haven’t seen any appreciable difference working with that in linear or rec.
