Pursuing a Flame career in Los Angeles

Exactly. That’s the economics 101 I’ve been referring to for a while on this topic.

This is an economic experiment run by children, since the adults have left the room.

The children have gotten very rich however.

Most rich children turn out to be brats… Case in point…

We can discuss that next quarter. Or next fiscal year. Or, ya know, maybe we’ll just remote in from our various bunkers and armored super yachts and discuss it then. For now though, mind passing the caviar?

I might be late to this but longevity in this Industry is based on relationships! With everything that has occurred over the past several years, the model has completely changed as we all know. Hiring full time employees is less likely to happen with this new model and those that are full time will endlessly have that thought in the back of their mind…who’s next to get cut due to high costs and overhead or just plain lack of work coming in. Ive been doing this a very long time and I don’t like to consider myself lucky that I constantly have work (or maybe it is), because there is still that feeling especially now a days what the future looks like and the old saying of “nothing last forever” But what I would say to someone getting into this Industry is to continually build those relationships. Be transparent with your clients and treat them as though your livelihood depends on it, cause it does! Go that extra mile with sincerity and kindness, set yourself apart from everyone else, build that trust. Take it upon yourself to send them a bottle of wine or a token of your appreciation even if you are just an employee at some shop. Build that relationship! Drop them an email just asking how are they doing and if there is anything at all you can help them with. Let them know if they get into a bind on another job or just have questions they can call or text you anytime without the expectation of compensation. (this little saying at the end of an email has brought me many future jobs, it shows that I actually do care and im not looking for anything in return…goes a very long ways) Don’t be too overbearing, but find that sweet spot that seems to get the most response. This might sound sappy but pour your heart into it, actually truly care about them, have those feelings that this person or client is very important to you, an extension of your family. Projecting these feelings will without a doubt create cause and effect. Just be kind throughout your entire journey, hustle and put in the hours. You can be the best Artist out there but be humble, it goes a long ways. Lastly, if you put just as much time and dedication into your client relationship skills as you do your craft…it becomes your little secret on how 30 years later your still staying very busy! Bonus advice…not that a 20 year old consciously thinks about this often, but don’t wait til your in your 40’s and 50’s and having to worry about health insurance or having a nest egg to pull you through those hard times on this ever changing rollercoaster of an Industry. Take action now! Love what you do and have fun!
