Andy, are you using a soft matte? If so, try a hard edge matte, that way you wont’t get a blurry grain outline.
I think the ghosting in the add/subtract method can be greatly reduced if you don’t overdo your noise reduction in the first place.
Sometimes I’ll fix up the subtracted grain with a 2D transform and shift the noise from a blurry area into the ghosted region.
But I really like seeing Das Grain working in flame, and I’m looking forward to experimenting with Alan’s method.

I remember from a while back you said you use posterize all the time… I was very curious. My money is on posterize being used. Excited to see it either way! Thanks @ALan!
