When Anthropic “donated” to Blender Foundation. Everyone instinct was that ROI and corporatism are on the horizon and Blender foundation will follow the cash flow. And off course blender Foundation eventually had to give damage control PR statement, which was proper lecture in gaslighting 101.
But when you have corporate sponsors, they have sponsors too and their sponsors want ROI sooner or later. Still the Blender community has a strong coping instinct for their bellowed Blender. Saying it is something that is open source and they can’t take it away from us. I am not so confidant in that. Open source is worth nothing, if you can’t maintain it. And that costs. Donations are not enough. It requires corporate sponsorship and add-on marker to funcion. And that is like when your local mafia guy offers to protect you. How nice of him.
