Hello everyone,
I wanted to write a quick, practical script for people working shot by shot, for freelancers, and for anyone without a system like ShotGrid behind them. It automatically turns your Write File renders into H.264 and MOV review copies. It converts them to the resolution and colour space you want and writes them to the folder you want. While it does that, you can also stamp burn-in metadata over the image.

There was a script along these lines before, “the\_peoples\_write\_node\_v0\_ProRes4444” — you can think of it as something similar.

I would be glad to hear how I could improve it and what I could add.

## Requirements

**Flame 2026.2 or newer.**

Installation is a single file: copy `write_file_transcoder.py` into `/opt/Autodesk/shared/python/` and run **Refresh Python Hooks** in Flame. There is nothing else to install.

The only external requirement is **ffmpeg** , built with `libx264` (MP4), `prores_ks` (MOV) and EXR decoding:

```auto
macOS : brew install ffmpeg
```

`Rocky : dnf install ffmpeg (needs RPM Fusion)`

If your ffmpeg lives somewhere else, you can set the full path in the Settings → General tab. PyOpenColorIO and PySide6, which handle the colour management and the interface, already ship with Flame.

`numpy` is optional: if Flame’s Python can import it the colour transform runs about twice as fast, and the output is the same either way.

Menus:

```auto
Main menu → Write File Transcoder → Settings... / Open log
```

`Right-click a Write File node in Batch → Write File Transcoder → Create review...`

If something goes wrong, the log is here: `~/Library/Logs/WriteConvert/` (Linux: `~/.local/state/WriteConvert/`).

**Note:** tested only on macOS, with Flame 2026.2.2. It was written with both platforms in mind but Linux has not been tested — if anyone tries it there, feedback would be very welcome.
