Everytime Autodesk corporate buys a smaller player I fondly remember Softimage, Toxik and Stingray. I hope the Montreal team gets their hands in it as well as the Maya and Max teams.
The Wonder Studio demos I saw were impressive, but were just thatā¦demos. And it all gave me lame phone app vibes. Maybe they have wizardry up their sleeves Iām unaware about, but my outsiderās impression of this deal is that itās Autodesk doing something so they can say theyāre doing Gen AI things, and that Wonder Studio will never be heard from again. When they killed Soft etc they killed actual, working products. This? If I was a shareholder, Iād be mad, but thatās about it.
Softimage - what a wonderful piece of software.
Maybe I dreamt this in an early Vegas haze but I think Stephen White told me that action was derived from softimageā¦
Incredibly, I noticed an app missing from that very long list: Media Cleaner Pro

They (Wonder Dynamics) appear to have a pretty interesting 3d tracking and scene reconstruction tool.
This could be very useful in all kinds of scenarios.
I expect that the reconstruction of IK/FK rigs and generative capabilities could also be exploited in one or two other ways.
Perhaps the heft of Autodesk will help to permit different quantities of training and yield unexpectedly improved results.
Much like the injection of Microsoft resources changed the generative pre-trained transformer monster that we already know and love.
