Dolby HDR to SDR

I’ve found that the analysis from HDR to SDR does need tweaking, at least in the luminance values.
How do you view both HDR and SDR for comparison. I do know they are vastly different.

We saw this when testing Flame2025, and comparing Dolby Vision trims in Flame vs SDR footage generated using those same trims out of Baselight. Flame 2023 matches up perfectly, but 2025 shows the luminance shifts like you are seeing.

Flagged it with Autodesk who have given it a bug number and are looking into it, but for whatever reason they omitted it from the latest release as a known bug.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately there is no way to see both the HDR and SDR monitoring at the same time. So I’m almost regrading for the trim pass. Not good.

HDMI tunneling ? AJA only afaik but then you could send DOVi with metadata to a DOVI TV set to SDR to see the trimm live i think?

in resolve you use 3D output left/righteye for hdr/sdr

I have never really understood grading the HDR and SDR side by side. I’ve always found it takes 5-10 minutes, including a walk out of the room, when changing from one to the other to see it properly. I know it’s a valid workflow and personal preference but I have never understood it. It really throws me seeing both at the same time.

I agree. Someone else posted that DV seems to be broken on analysis. Was working correctly in 2023 but not in 2025. There was a substantial difference between the HDR and SDR, primarily brightness. Had to tweak it all. Might be me being a novice but I’m not sure that’s the case.

That does sound odd. Usually you have to tweak the occasional shot here and there but not every shot. Something doesn’t sound right. Could be a software bug in Flame?

I’m not on the tools these days and we use Resolve or Baselight where I work for analysis. We haven’t seen this issue.

That’s what I heard. A bug report was put in. I’ll have to check on it.
