External Hard Drive - Linux

I’m about to transition a Mac Flame job to a Linux Flame, and it’s been a while since I’ve used Linux. I was planning on using a small external 5TB USB drive for the Flame archive and source material transfer, and anticipated plugging it directly into the Linux Flame. I assume the best way to format the drive is “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)”? I seem to remember there was a limitation to the size external hard drive you can mount on it - is that correct? Any tips appreciated! Thanks

I regularly mount 8tb mac journaled drives to my G8. They are, however, read only.

You can use exfat. No size limitations, read-write in both systems.
