Grading on the timeline with ACES

DISCLAIMER: I have done very little grading in ACES_cg in flame, mainly just tweaks of stuff.

However I have done a looot of grading in Resolve in ACES_cct and in Resolve it is a night and day difference between ACES_cg and cct. The highlight compression (where the highlights compress at the top of the scope instead of marching off a cliff) and even dark compression you get grading in cct is a joy to work with. I’ve been tempted to just convert everything to cct but I still have my comp/flame instinct to not convert/f with things that don’t actually need to be touched.

I guess I am grading in cct when the timeline shows as
Log C4 / Arri Wide Gamut 4.
And I see the issue with the highlight compression aces_cg
I do grade however using video controls, not scene linear or log.

Came across this video and thought it was interesting and pertinent to this thread. It’s a colourist explaining why he often grades in a linear colourspace.
