Someone from an LA shop asked me for recommendations for freelancers, so I thought the best route would be to post it here on the Forum. They do a ton of NDA work so they require artists to work on-site. If you are interested feel free to contact them at:
I trust Andy, but I don’t really like the precedence this sets. Job postings come with nice info for the applicant, like salary range, location, and the benefit of past experience with, and reputation of a studio. I can imagine artists not wanting signal their availability to an unknown entity. This could be the Strauss brothers for all we know!
Guys, don’t overthink this. There are lots of studios that restrict posting in public places and ask us to help. It’s not a huge deal. If you’re a freelancer in LA you should reach out.
When I was on staff and ran a dept, we would occasionally place anonymous job postings so we didn’t raise eyebrows in the dept. Sometimes it was just to take the temperature of who was out there. I have no firsthand information on this, but I imagine the intention is the same here: To see who else might be out there in the freelance world without causing concern with your current freelancers.
Like Randy said, if you’re a freelancer in LA and are looking to make some new contacts, then reach out. If not, then flame on!
Correct me if I’m wrong, Sam, but it seems like all this company wanted to do was meet some new freelancers. There’s no job offer. There’s no staff position being discussed. And freelancers (at lease this freelancer ) set their own rate. We don’t have a “Freelancer Directory” here. If we did, then there would be less of a need for this company to try and find a way to meet some new freelancers.
The only purpose of the original post was to try to help make opportunities for people.
