New MM_Fireflys

I can probably work something out with particles @TimC DM me if you want to chat.

well the bad news is the job starts in 2 days but the good news is we did shoot some element plates for it so I’ve got some great reference for you  and to be clear I don’t expect anyone to whip up a shader in that time. the more I thought about it though which takes me back to the artwork input is a shader that could take an input of whatever dimension / size and then have said artwork drift into frame / float down from sky. so while dollar bills would be handy, I’m sure someone would need Euros at some point, or English pound, etc. or maybe it’s falling leaves of a certain kind and at a certain time of the year (fall; spring; etc) anyways food for thought. I know shaders do have some hard limitations as well so maybe this is all wishful thinking… again thanks for all the effort and sharing with the community @Marcus_M

I might take you up on that @Sinan I’ll let you know!

thx!

No worries at all. Having read your message I’m going to start looking at MM_Leaves which will be for blowing windy leafs or gently falling ones. Might just work out OK for dollar bills. Not pound coins though as they would be deadly.

Based on my snow shader but very much modified is my Autumn leaves shader. Please note if using the vortex paramter please have background leaves turned on as the foreground and background leaves move in opposite directions. Once your happy you can dupe the layer for a motion vectot output. Sadly i cant get a MV output from the same node as well as the beauty and the matte. I’m going to test this out a little more then i can put it on the portal. brief summary below.

MM_Leaves — Procedural Falling Autumn Leaves

A Flame Matchbox generator that creates windy, falling autumn leaves in three independently-textured leaf types, with three depth layers (foreground, mid, background) for parallax. Designed to composite over any background plate.

Inputs

  • Leaf 1/2/3 Front + Matte — a color image and greyscale alpha for each leaf type. Leave a pair unconnected to disable that leaf type.

Core controls

  • Shape — Density, Size, Size Variation, Wind Angle (static fall direction).
  • Wind — Flutter (diagonal gust drift as leaves fall — the “caught by the wind” look), Flutter Scale (size of gust groups), Spin Speed, Vortex.
  • Look — Patch Scale/Patchiness (brightness variation), Clustering (denser gusts vs gaps), Tumble (edge-on flip squash), Storm (master calm-to-chaos intensity dial).
  • Speed — independent FG/Mid/BG fall speed (0 = holds and swirls, no drop) plus a Global Speed multiplier.
  • Enable — master on/off plus per-layer FG/Mid/BG toggles.
  • Transform / Crop — standard position, rotation, global transform, and edge crop/softness controls.

Vortex — storm interior look

Turning up Vortex switches from normal falling leaves to a “caught in the eye of the storm” effect: foreground leaves sweep sideways across camera one way, background leaves sweep the opposite way, with Vortex Speed setting how fast they rush past and Vortex Turbulence adding a slow up/down wander so leaves enter and exit the frame at different heights rather than in a flat mechanical line. Push Storm up alongside it for full chaos.

Motion vectors

For high-quality motion blur, render the node twice: once normally, once with Output Motion Vectors turned on and Vector Scale tuned to your downstream blur tool’s expected range. Feed both the beauty and vector renders into a motion-blur/vector-blur tool downstream rather than relying on any in-shader blur.

Particles?

amazing! will fire it up and let you know how it goes @Marcus_M

I cannot remember how many times i’ve made mattes for a phone screens using croc box to get me most of the way. The painful bit is always cutting that little lozenge hole out that reveals the camera lens. Different on every comp.

I’m please to present a super simple MM_Phone Matte shader that takes this into consideration and makes it super easy to make phone mattes. It hopefully will be on the portal soon but here it is incase you need to comp a phone screen today.

I have updated my phone matte shader to accommodate this style of lens hole. I might add it was a right pain in the lens hole to do. M

I am sharing MM_Jumbo which is my take on a Jumbotron screen look. I’m pleased with it so sharing with you all. Should be on the portal soon. M
