I tried it and we have interparticle z-buffer issues when we move the camera. Flame’s particle system is not really usable when you want to create atmospheric effects that interact with other objects, or if you want to move the camera… It is from the 90s mind you
Could you elaborate on this a bit Adam? I want to give this a go but need some reference or a bit more explanation…
Hi sinan…have sent you a message with a bit more info.

Hi Sinan!
Thanks you for doing this, I love your videos! As a real beginner in the particicle system, I would love to learn how to do a classic christmas snow globe. Basically a little snow storm contained in a glass sphere. If you already showed something similar can you redirect me to the video?
Looking foward to this one!
Thanks!
Hey @Sinan. Could your share some wisdom on expressions? Would love to have a better understanding of them within the particle animator
Hi @MikeyBrown
I’ll try to show some examples with expressions but it’s a really deep topic. Maybe I’ll do a part 3 of the Logik Academy.
snowglobe is a cool idea. really anything where you use another piece of geo or plane to constrain a particle system.
Hi @Arvi and @TimC,
Snow globe is a great idea. Unfortunately, Flame’s system doesn’t have a direct way to constrain the particles to a specific volume. We can go about this by using approximations. I would cheat this probably, by animating the transparency of the particles that go beyond the limits of a sphere. This in itself wouldn’t be easy as I would need to define the volume by a function, but let me give it a try.
I’m not sure if the inside of a spherical bouncer would work. Let me have a go at that as well.
See you in a couple of hours.
Damn it. I was a little late
@Sinan, awesome show! I just did a more traditional method of cloning trees to a DMP. Would love to see how you build that out with particles. Thanks!
The patreon after-party was really great, thanks @Sinan . For those that missed it, Sinan showed several additional setups, and explained them in detail. Very generous of you, Sinan. I learned several things from you. Thanks again.
@Josh_Laurence suggested flying through a tunnel made of rings on a curvy path, and Sinan started down a particle implementation. Here’s my down n dirty attempt:

(While this is fun, I think this is one of those cases where one would consider “real” 3d, depending on job parameters. After trying to generate a “fiery” texture with additional particles and a turbulent field, it became apparent that many millions of particles would be necessary - houdini territory.)
@Maurypb I don’t suppose you have the setup that you could share for your tunnel do you?
Aww darn, looks like I deleted it. So sorry
ah never mind thanks anyway just needed to do a quick test of going down a tunnel thought it might be useful
Ahh, forgotten promises. I did say I was going to share all these setups. Here’s the tunnel setup as a batch. It can be loaded into, back to Flame 2021 I guess…
tunnel_particles.zip (41.7 KB)
Well, I don’t know if you need this any longer, but I found an archive of that tunnel…

thank you both! very helpful to see
