scary times .
And who knows maybe there are companies that have built full comp tools for a few thousands in credits and just cloned nuke or even flame and are keeping it for themselves ⌠that seems to not be far fetched⌠![]()
For educational purposes looking at the rate software is getting cracked and also at stuff like âanyps5â
my 2c is that software really is dead.
Autodesk/foundry etc will have to change their whole business model. interesting and scary at the same time.
I mean i have seen like 20 clones of frameIO now, i also have one, i made my own âmasvâ type filetransfer tool and a bunch more.. this is getting to the point where you have to be scared as a company making software.
Blackmagic is on a way different/better? trail hereâŚ
The problem is that everyone can now build the apps. But not everyone can provide the infrastructure and support.
So weâre knee-capping the already strained budgets of classic software companies to replace them with glittery but unsupported houses of cards.
Itâs a natural evolution from the early experiments with vibe coding which everyone got so excited about. Careful what you ask for. It may be bitter.
Donât come crying when youâre on a deadline, and your software doesnât run. Youâre frantically using AI to fix the bug, but itâs getting worse, the client is yelling where their stuff is, youâve been up 32 hours⌠because youâre both artist and IT support now. Adobe has gone bankrupt and closed shop. Claude Code is teetering because the bubble burst. The few data centers they have left online are constantly above capacity, so there are long waits and outages. Stack Overflow is a historical footnote, and there are no forums for this problem. Youâre making due with some dubious overseas model youâre running local as the only thing left.
Something we will collectively regret. But you canât tell kids to get out of the sandbox because there is a tsunami coming. So here we areâŚ
You are not a philosopher just because you can think. Nor are you an author that you can read and write sentences. So, you are not a programmer just because you can tell what you want, in very broad terms, to an AI agent.
The other thing - hopefully your up is truly spectacular in color management, and what the client sees on their iPhone is just how the clip was supposed to look like.
Ah, thatâs hard? Impossible?
Right now you can blame it on FrameIO. Your get out of jail card, even though itâs not ideal.
You vibe coded that crap. Well, that lands at your feet. Nowhere to hide now.
âYouâre right. I did apply the wrong NCLC tag to all your exports, and thatâs on me!â
True, but conversely anyone whoâs interacted with support these days might argue thatâs a nonissue. Haha.
For so long software has been moving in consumer-alienating directions that it makes sense that people would be willing to forego a lot to get out of the Adobe ecosystem.
Iâve got no love for, well, anything âAIâ, but I have a good amount of schadenfreude seeing Adobe have their IP stolen and copied.
and it already feels like the Flame team is down to 10 undies guys.
Totally with you. The greed and indifference is galling. They deserve all the shit it wants to rain on them. But we donât want to be left with the puddle afterwards unless we have a greener pasture nearby.
I could care less about Adobe (and a few others). This alternative is not the answer though Iâm afraid, and we might find out the hard way.
Yep. I agree right back.
While I may enjoy some pettyness when the IP theft hits some IP theieves, Iâd rather live in a world where people who are good at making software (and movies, and music, and writing, and, and, and) can be supported and continue to practice their profession.
Also funny that the dude in the video is paying lip service to the tech-broâs Pascalâs Wager, (is there anything tech bros canât re-invent?) Fuck the clankers. They will never care about anyone; no need to fear their wrath.
I got a chain email in college and complained to the sender that I did not appreciate him threatening my fortune via chain email due to my name being in the first part of the alphabet. He replied with âyou never know! better safe than sorry! What goes around comes around!â, and I replied with something that ensured he never sent me an email again.
Plus, I remember those those big green download buttons that fooled so many people to download malware. Iâm sure we are just starting to see ransomeware hiding in not just big green download button online that is easy to spot, but in your app when you press render. Just a matter of time, I suppose.
About Adobe âclonesâ. I canât see much more than slop, but I do like to see karma come to play. Adobe certainly deserved it.
