Adsk, your licensing sucks. (I am angry)

Ongoing licensing issues with apps not registered with the licensing service have been plaguing us .

Trying to get asap help with support is not a thing.

I dont feel ok spending money with autodesk if they cant fix their licensing to be less hostile.

I cant from a business perspective deal with the logging in/out overhead, everyday all day 2fa garbage !!!

But now I cant even launch the software I paid for due to “oh sorry please follow this completely asinine wrong guide that leads me to windows bugfixes with licensing”

I just canceled all my adsk subscriptions will be looking for alternative software without hostile licensing!

I am SO ANGRY.

ADSK Your support site sucks, your chat agents have no clue…

This is now how you treat customers. This is NOT ok.

You are not dealing in consumer software that costs nothing , this is high end stuff I expect high end software and licensing that doesnt get in the way!!!

Named User licensing is a double kick in the balls. So much overhead for something that should be a non issue. We used to spend 5 minutes a year dealing with licensing which was just updating the RLM floating license file. Now we’ve had to develop a complex workflow to manage assigned Named User accounts, which includes having to run an internal 2FA code server.

yes and yes.

My particular issues is even more evil, random versions of flame would just be not “registered” with the licensing service

this is evil . Evil Evil.

and yes named users SUCK . there is NOTHING remotely good about this garbage.

the fact that anyone pirating is chilling hard not having to deal with this is another slap in the face for us paying customers ….

Get your act together Autodesk, there are other options out there!

Someone I know who is a well seasoned Pirateer who told me recently that there is a dude with a full crack of Flame so he doesn’t have to deal with this nonsense.

if you have a guide how to register flare on macOS against the licensing service ill take that, all I can find is windows guides that wont really help me .

@finnjaeger have you been able to open a ticket with our Support team about this issue? If not, please get to me over email so we can route this emergency to the right group.

i am allready gone from work for the day, i did put a ticket in via chat a few hours ago making sure i stress how urgent it is - but no responses yet

Case 24878445

Can you just maybe sideline tell me how i can register flare with the licensing service? this happend to me before but the support guy did not follow up with a guide on how to self - fix this issue. that was case 24705123 which had the exact same issue and jeffrey fixed it via remote desktop

I really hope my voice somehow gets heard at adsk that the licensing system is completely unaccaptable, from these bugs to the whole login thing.. - i do know its not your turf or even the turf of the dev team but it really makes flame worse.

thanks for reaching out I appreicate it

Good! A Support case is always to best thing to start for this kind of issue. Our Support colleagues are on the case.

All Flame Family products use the same Single User Licensing and I will let my Support colleagues go through this to avoid confusion.

We are sorry about these hickups.

there seems to be something going on with user switching and moving app entitlements around users, we have flame flare and flameassist licenses and we move them around our users and workstations as needed for the day, this particular mschine is our online suite so it changes users almost daily depending on who is running the session.

this seems to have caused apps randomly not beign registered with the licensing service.

Also you should check the pop up guide on licensing issues, at some point it wanted me to download tools for windows and alll the steps had nothing to do with the application is not registrered issue.

All guides i can find on that issue seems to be tailored to windows and autocad.

You should follow our license workflow. I really helps to mitigate this shitastrophé.

The solution to the case you flagged (24705123) is here. Please let us know if that solves your issue.

thank you will try this first thing in the morning.

Would be awesome if the error message would link to this and not to the wrong guide

You are not alone with your frustration @finnjaeger

It takes me an excruciating 3 minutes to launch my Flame, if all goes well.

  1. Launch Flame

  2. Terminal launches and I watch for a few seconds until this pops up:

  1. I reset the Autodesk License by using the support tool:
    AdskLicensingSupportTool --resetlicensemethod ALL

  2. Then after a wait I get this:

  1. Hitting Try again will make we wait for a little longer before another window pops up, prompting me to log into Autodesk (can’t screen grab because this window sits on top of my screen capture window).

  2. Logging in will allow the program to launch.

This happens EVERY morning and sometimes when I crash. Can you imagine a 3 minute turn around after crashing in front of clients :scream:

I would log a support case except this is their recommended solution. But this shouldn’t need to happen at all.

this is horrible I am sorry.

What is my resolve license doing these days?

Oh its a dongle thats been in my computer for 5 years …. ah yea.. never had a single problem…

That guide is incorrect slightly for 2025.2.4

  1. Go to Contents > Resources folder.

  2. Copy FlameConfig.pit file to the Desktop.

The FlareConfig.pit is in Contents → Helper instead. I also checked flame assist and Flame and all of them are in the helper folder not in ressources.

and then of course you need to change the command depending on the product version / type (this is in the guide, so thats fine, just maybe its faster to grab the product pk and pv from the error message, just leaving this here for anyone with the same issue)

for example my particular version of flare :

Error message:

License Error Information: Flare [C0WQ1, 2025.0.0.F] (ADLSDK_UPDATE_REASON_LICENSE_UPDATE): this product has not been registered with the licensing service yet

so my command has to be :

./AdskLicensingInstHelper register -pk C0WQ1 -pv 2025.0.0.F -cf ~/Desktop/FlareConfig.pit -el US

Then yes it works and I can start flare again.

Not sure that a dongle is the answer in today’s post environment.

A lot of other companies have abandoned the dongle as well, even Steinberg and Avid.

That being said, ADSK seems to have a way above average problem rate with their licensing. Other companies that use software licensing, including onces where you constantly move licenses around like BorisFX (with their blessing), don’t seem to be suffering regular meltdowns.

Might the time for a rethink on how this all works and get a more capable engineering team to take a look at this.

Let’s be clear though the avid and Steinberg ilok USB dongle was also software reliant to register your licenses associated with the ilok , was a nightmare and defeated the purpose of a dongle.

Resolves dongle is great cause no matter what or where you plug it in and it just works no screwing around.

Autodesk really need to make this process simpler for paying customers and make it a giant pain in the ass for the people who are using cracked software

It’s all bass ackwards right now

In the situation where a studio that is strict about studio content security and has systems that have zero connection to the Internet, where white-listing is not an option, how do they license Autodesk products?!

Seriously though, I kind of feel that software security to this level is a bit outdated, overkill and unnecessary. If I want compositing software for free, I can use the free version of Resolve with Fusion or the Non-commercial Nuke offering. If I don’t want to pay for Maya then I can just use Blender for free. Apparently there are jailbroken versions of most major apps available already, if you are prepared to risk downloading a hacked piece of software and all the hidden malware it might contain. I’m not suggesting getting rid of licensing but just make it simple and reliable. For the record, I love the Resolve license dongle even in a studio environment. It’s simple and it works. If you are working somewhere else and forget to take the dongle with you then it is on you.

When logging into personal Internet banking is easier than logging into a piece of software, then there is an issue with the software licensing system.
