Camera tracking and UV unwrap techniques

this is awesome, thanks Christopher.

Quick question, I’m getting jaggy black edges at the end of the image projection and back plate, as well as where the projection crosses edge of frame, any easy way to get rid of that?

That’s a fascinating one too. By converting “ask” to a noun you can depersonalize or otherwise soften it. It’s a shorter, cuter way of saying “request”.

It’s my belief that these usages serve the dual purpose of sexing up one’s speech, and abstracting it to avoid (anticipated) conflict.

I think maybe there’s room for distinguishing between horseshit-speak (asks) and jargon (solves). It’s a grey area and we’re in dire need of more item specific descriptors for our work. So in my opinion, I’d say solves are absolutely legit. As legit as tracks or comps or renders or even solutions. But asks…couldn’t agree more - it’s just neutering. But maybe we run that up the flagpole and see who salutes?

Mocha unwrap shot?
What’s all this then?

Maybe try outputting an alpha and unMultiply.

That worked. Changed the premult in action fixed on the BG and FG edge and switching the stabilized projector to mirror repeat fixed the edge on the edge of frame.

Andy, after you’ve sorted out Randy’s “solves” issue, can you sort out all my clients’ “asks?” TIA!

Try not to feed the animals. It only encourages them.

I’m over a year late, but I needed to do this today and found this thread and your archive. Thank you thank you THANK YOU @cnoellert!!! I’ve been wanting to do this for years, but my brain and UV math just never got along. I’m now happily removing arm cars from car reflections. THANK YOU!!!

That’s awesome man! So glad to hear it :metal:t2:

So after some futzing about I seem to have gotten this to work and let me say… it rules.

Consider how you’re the 3D tracking master it’s not a bad trick to have in your pocket.

Glad it’s working out for you.

Indeed, and it dovetails nicely with recent experiments using object tracking in syntheyes.

Thanks for the setup! I certainly wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without that.

I missed this all last time.

I played with the setup. Many thanks @cnoellert

I tested it using UV Warp at the end to comp the clean up which worked pretty well too.

One question if I may. Open to all. I tested old fashioned projectors and compared the results with a diffuse layer projector. I discovered the diffuse layer projector was much softer than old fashioned projector. But only on comping on the still at the end. Why?

Double filtering in the map and the surface maybe versus single filter hit in projectors?

That was my suspicion. Like source nodes.

OMG!!! It is so exactly what I had in mind… Amazing setup. Thank you so much…

@lewis Lewis Saunders, thank you so much once again.
Thank you to everyone who pointed me to that thread.
