Flame regrain messes up at 1114 frames

Just an FYI

Simple Flame regrain node (you’ll recall my LiveGrain post). No matter what at frame 1114 the grain does this bizarre herringbone pattern, and then goes back to normal. It’s in timeline, it’s in Batch. If you’re bored I’d be interested if it’s reproducible for you.

2024.2.2, Mac

resolution, color space, bit depth, start frame, Grain type

1080, 16bit batch or 12 bit timeline, start frame 1, ANY of the preset flame regrains except B&W

Edit: UHD same

not seeing it on linux

nope - not here - not an exhaustive test:

1200 frames of 50% grey - 1920x1080@16bitfp@23.976fps

Screenshot from 2024-07-12 16-07-38

I tried:

5245
5248
5287
5293
5296
5298

I don’t see the same behavior.

Yeah, we’ve found this on our macs. Quite bizarre and unpleasant.

Also, make of this what you will but could be helpful to send along with the support request. Saturn is in retrograde right now too, so that could be what’s causing it to only show up on macs (from my knowledge of astrology)

Just wondering why you’re still using regrain, I always use Ivars renoise, much better IMO.

FWIW, In the limited testing that I’ve done, the new for 2025 Match Grain tool generates noise patterns that are functionally indistinguishable from the original footage (when working in a color-managed, degrain / regrain workflow).

The following was fixed in Flame 2025.0.1
FLME-66014 : Regrain: The green channel of some seeds can display corruption.
Which may fix your issue.
