Flame Timewarp ML

I love the new Timewarp ML in Flame 2025, but my only issue is having to wait for it to render, am I missing something, or can you render it somehow in the background as previously, so I can carry on working?

Are you working on a Mac? …its faster on Linux

Yep, but doesn’t answer my question!!! I have been working on a very long shot, and need a better solution.

  1. Set Render Mode to Background:
  • In the Render box, select Background Reactor (Auto). This setting automatically sends rendering jobs to the background when you scrub away from a segment or deselect it. Autodesk Help
  1. Adjust Timewarp Preferences:
  • Navigate to Preferences > Timeline > Rendering.
  • Set the Timewarp Render Mode to Background. This ensures that Timewarp effects are processed in the background, allowing for continued editing without interruption. Autodesk HelpAutodesk Help

…only on 2026 I think

Can the new ML timewarps be sent to Linux burn from a Mac Flame?

Yep

Neat! Thanks!

So this won’t be the case on a Mac then, as these options aren’t available, is that right? The background reactor?

It’s on mac

Its just on the link above to Autodesk, on the Autodesk site it says Linux Only?

Background reactor is now a feature on MacOS as of flame 2025.2.

Thanks Andy, I will give it a go.

The compromise to keep in mind is that while Background Reactor is supported on Mac, a dual-GPU configuration is not supported on Mac, meaning you will need to allocate a certain % of your resources on your single GPU toward the Background Reactor and away from general Flame processes (as opposed to the Linux-only Dual-GPU workflow of allocating one full GPU for Background Reactor and the other full GPU for Flame processing tasks). The question (and maybe benchmark) you will want to test is: is it better to limit your Flame resources for the sake of rendering your TWML in the background, or is that a net loss since the TWML render is slower AND your general Flame processing tasks are slower.

Just food for thought!

I’m kinda a fan of telling producers “This is gonna take 20 mins to render, I’m gonna get a coffee, bye!”
