Thanks, you’re right. But equipment does change yearly. So since I’m on Linux I keep asking. We’re probably going to hold off til the update cycle in the fall. Hopefully it’ll be worth it.
When it comes to Linux specifically, I’d say that once you install Homebrew on Mac there’s nothing holding you back from geeking out on Unix with full feature parity between the two operating systems. macOS/OS X roots are a direct port of NetBSD which is based off Berkley Unix. Most backend developers I work with prefer developing on Mac.
