Mobland/Prologue

…and feared.

There are many stories and lore about KC in this town, not all of them sterling. But talent ultimately covers anything else up.

Some of my favourite stories about this industry involve Kyle. I’ve never had the pleasure…

Did you ever figure out how to use Batch?

This thread got spicy

First time I used Batch was in Shanghai on a Flint in 1999, and it was slow as hell and clunky, but also a game changer.

There’s public record regarding me and batch…

I mean, to bolster my original point, I know people whose work Kyle took credit for, and his legend continues while most of the people that support him are unknown.

I can’t speak to who all did exactly what in all of these sick titles (and obviously it’s not just one person), but the one commonality between them is KC. An army of any number of good compositors cannot come up with that creativity and vision of one designer.

Also separating the artist from the art, when the artist’s behavior is problematic, goes back as far as art. Carl Orff was essentially a proto-Nazi, yet I still love Carmina Burana. The throughline goes straight through Michael Jackson and beyond.

Did you ever work on anything he put his name on?

Nah, just a knock off that was pretty good, but just a facsimile.

Ho ho ho!

is it really stealing if your name is on the studio and you’re paying the creative staff who came up with the idea? That shit hot 24 year-old wouldn’t be able to get the Mobland show runner to take their call.

Yep. The brothers Warner were not actually cranking the film cameras, but their credits are deserved. It takes a village, with all the villagers, but it always has a chieftain.

My point, again, is that the chieftain is being a prick by not sharing the names of the shit-hot 24 year olds who cannot get showrunners to take their calls.

Also fair!

I started at IF when Kyle was off doing his movie, and it was, internally, regarded as one of the most productive, creative periods anyone could remember. I have a ton of respect for Kyle as a designer, but his being written into history as the main creative force behind much of anything is more of a PR victory than a talent victory.

There were plenty of folks there who were grown ass adults, not hot shit 24 year olds, who were (somewhat) happy to cede the limelight to him so they could be left to noodle kerning in peace.

I’d just like to mention, that this post was intended to ask about and laud anyone in this community who might have had a hand in making something exceptional. Somehow it turned into an ad hominem against one person, whose contribution to the work is here unknown.

There may be other reasons that some might subconsciously resent the renown and success and talent of one of the few popularly known names in our industry – but I’m just a Flamer and not a shrink – and I’m not an advocate or antagonist for anyone.

I’d like to think that this forum could be more about elevating work and artists, as I’d hoped to do with this post and question – rather than lashing people in the public square.

The answer seems to be that no one here worked on this piece, so I’ll mark this thread as Solved.

Wow.
