On Set: Phones/Tablets

Hello Logik

On-set question for you all:
Are there rigs you all like to attach a phone to a c-stand arm? Anything that doesn’t wrap about the sides of the phone…?

Looking for any recs for phone/tablet apps to put green/gray/blue plus markers on screens.. I’ve only found one that seems like it may get the job done, but wondering what else is happening out in the world on this front.

Thanks all

If you’re shooting an iPhone, there’s all kinds of MagSafe mounts that would probably work…maybe even car mounts.

My friend just epoxy’s the arm to the phone back. And when they don’t let him use a phone case. He still epoxy’s the phone back to the end of magic arm (no screw).

Having to have removed his rigs. It keeps it super steady.

Apps are fine, but we just make a nice dark gray solid in photoshop and put slightly lighter, very tiny dots in the corners. We also shoot a screen with grayscale chips to help with inevitable color conversion tomfoolery when the content shows up in srgb.

I feel like the the markers in apps are frequently washed out by reflections. Always bring white tape, dots, etc just in case!

Dots of liquid paper are one of the most interesting things I’ve seen for tracking markers. Applied in a blob, they “scrape” off very easily and don’t damage the screen. And since they are on the screen they don’t get washed out by the reflections.

Oh that’s good  I was looking at vinyl adhesive and a whole punch, but the liquid paper is a nice trick!
