Stranger Things

When I first saw Stranger Things I thought, “this is nostalgia bait ET that steals the visuals and concept (but not the point) of Silent Hill” and while all that is still true, the one thing I cannot get past is why someone would keep the number-as-name label applied by people who kept you in a box and treated you like shit?

First thing I do if I break out of the lab as a telekinetic teen is give myself a cool ass name like “Starfire” or “Beth”. I definitely wouldn’t be like, “you can just call me a number. That’s fine.”

But I only watched the first season, and I did so in the “Netflix Style” of fucking around on my phone while it was on, so maybe they addressed this.

Not really. The first series was the one that was the best conceived.

Sometimes you just get used to the name that you grow up with and it can’t be replaced. I know somebody whose hippie parents thought he should pick his own name when he was old enough - like 7, I think. So in the meantime they just called him Child. Guess what his name is to this day.

That guy should change their name over time.“No-Longer Child”, “The Artist Formerly Know as Child”, “Dude Who Was Once Child”, “Sweet Child o Mine”

I mean, my kid calls me “Unc” now, which I’m told is not complimentary.
