What is your favorite thing with Flame (inside Batch)

My Flame trial is goin to end in 2 days I think and I am pretty sure I am going to get Flare to replace my Nuke.

So far in this short period I have been trying to understand Flame and test using same footages I have worked with Nuke. There have been many hurdles for sure, but thanks to great community of Logik I have managed to get solutions for my issues. For sure there are many issues to come, but I am quite confident I will get jobs done with small steps.

At this point I would like to hear from other Flame users what are those things why you love working with Flame or Flare? Specially inside Batch as I am mainly focused of using Flare as compositor.

I am going through Logik Academy Pro and learning many great things from each video, but for me at least Flame way of handling render and multiple batches inside single project feels quite nice. It is so easy to jump from shot to shot.

have a nice day!

If you’re a trekkie, I’ve always compared Nuke to Flames batch like regular chess to 3D chess. I love the fact that there are so many tools that do multiple tasks, the king of which has to be Action.

I’ve never used any other application, so I can’t compare, but one of the things I like best about batch is the ability to pre-build tool sets from multiple nodes and store them in a user bin.

Gmask Tracer is for me one of the best features of Flame. The tracer has a very powerful keyer and a good plannar tracker.
I would love to see an update in the future for an even better tracer.
I also love the Image node, so useful. Jeff Kyle did a video on it and since then I’ve found it very helpful.

Apart from the main nodes mentioned and pre-built setups, I love the ease of use. This has a huge impact on the overall user experience. Small things like mimic links between nodes; the navigation tools within the schematic; linking, parenting, grouping and organizing the nodes…

I love matchboxes. there are some gems in the stock adsk ones but the logik matchbook is such an essential toolbox for me. something from it shows up in basically all my comps. i’m not great at glsl but its nice to have the ability to write some shader code and be able to test and use it basically directly as a matchbox node.

Yeah, I have been watching some great videos of Action. Cool stuff!

Yes it looks handy indeed. I have to learn first to make good sets to be used again and again!

I was checking Flame for Nuke Artists videos about GmaskTracer and boy oh boy! It seems like a quite huge tool.

I really like its gesture based controls like delete node by dragging bottom edge and open media panel with side swipe.

I was simply amazed after seeing these videos to find super useful matchboxes.

Strictly speaking about comparing to others:

  • Axis into action: the capability of make multilayering and creating herarchies by using axis. The easiest way to link pos, size, rotation among layers.
  • Multi-output of action. The most beautiful shit created ever. I can’t even think of how to do some sutff without something like this.
  • Action as a multilayer comp node. To be able to comp 23 layers in one node, and change the hierarchy easly, versus a-comp node-after-another-comp-node.

Yup, that’s why we all love Flame!
