A more accurate demo would be to see how they work in an actual comp. I’d be interested in seeing what exists in the dark areas of the “bad” matte. What does it look like with the gamma cranked. I find that often those mattes that show off “great” hair detail also show off miserable edges in a comp.

The SammieRoto matte is better in all ways. The Automatte is garbage.

Then don’t use Automatte. Learn to use different tools for different jobs.

I didn’t have a problem with the first video, but just for my curiosity, those hair strands look nice on the image to the left. Can you show or explain what is the nature of the color image, what was the background like? Is this green screen, person against a blue clear sky with contrast or was this super busy background with patterns similar to hair etc. What is the pre-requsite to extract such fine hair details with this tool? I’ve tried most similar tools but I haven’t played with the sammie roto 2 (git hub). So just curious.

Alan, what box are you running Sammie on? Windows, mac or linux? If the latter, does it play nicely on a Flame box?

It runs on anything in a venv. It’s in all of my playbooks.
