I must say though, I have mentioned that I was a Flame Artist to a VFX graduate not too long ago to which their reply was “Oh, that’s cool. So do you do all the flame effects in Houdini?”
Still photographers have more singular input to an image and can register a copyright.
When you work in film, it’s a team sport. No single person or idea carries the day.
When the team succeeded because of your contribution they want you back for the next game. That’s a more important story rather than whose idea the pixel at 500/235 was.
If you can’t register copyright, it wasn’t your idea alone.
when I say idea I mean the direction/look of the given idea
Still just a slice of the pie.
in a personal satisfaction way , but its about telling someone in your title that you can be trusted to take an idea and create something
I dont see it as a slice of the pie…
But to be honest Flame Artist covers all, being one has evolved to versioning and having nuke ops do the creative and you just dealing with clients as a presenter and conforming … but I think the creative coming back to flame ?
But I agree why do you need to be specific in your title, … Flame Artist is enough.
Or …Flame Artist w/t Kitchen sink
Self chosen titles are not a guarantee. Your work history, your referrals, repeat business are more meaningful.
Is a Flame artist better than a Nuke artist or someone toiling in Fusion? Not really. But many of the Flame artists here have decades of experience and work to prove it.
I say “Commercial Video Artist.” It is precise in it’s vagueness and ambiguously direct and nobody connects it with arson.
My mind think differently, there s good and bad Flame artists, nukes, fusion’s etc
we are all digital artists,…
If I want to detach myself from branding then this is my fav
I used to say “Digital Composite Artist” and my elderly uncle said “You mean you work with your fingers???”
but we do
Well to wrap it up: this group is full of very accomplished, creative, helpful, friendly, and just all around good people that often go more than the extra mile.
And that’s what I appreciate the most.
All 263 of us . . .
we should put our rates up were a delicacy
Its beautiful is nt it, …theres not many of us
Just the other day a client said my work reminded him of hákarl.
is that sushi?
I’m not sure, but it sounded good. I’ll look it up sometime. It’s past my bedtime . . .
Surely with the collective of creative individuals on Logik, one of us can come up with an acronym for what we do that spells out something rude.
if you are a adsk stockholder, cant you ask for Flame numbers? they are a public company, rirght? i dont know how this works…
there is a lot of data which one could use to derive something…

Media and Entertainment accounts for 77million revenue in this quater . a quater is 3 months, so 25million/month -ish
what are we guessing? maybe its 5% of that is flame? so you know how many maya/arnold/3ds useres there are? lets say 5% of 25Million, so 1.25M for flame a single month is $610 so hat would make it somewhere around 2000 Users (different licenses, yearly, and there are problaby bulk deals when you have 100 licenses… idk)
Obviously super guesstimated, but I doubt it would be 20.000 users, that would make a bigger dent in the earning reports, i mean i havent found a single mention of flame in any of these that I looked at , zero .
But if its not counted as “media and entertainment” but as " other", which makes sense given its not part of the MandE package - then you look at 28million a quater, if we assume its all Flame (which it totally isnt) then it would be 15.000 users.
I am really just throwing public numbers around to gauge it ,h anyone holding big piles of adsk stock that can ask?
But honestly , big grain of guesstimation
