It’s shit AI. Good AI is all around us.

Just like in the old days. If there was not much thought on the input, output matches in smell factor. If on the other hand it was lovingly done, you can tell.

AI didn’t change that formula, just the speed.

To be fair, shit AI is all around us too.

But is that AI’s fault, or how people are using it, or we get told by management to use it?

AI is doing exactly what engineers would tell you it was designed to do and is capable of. It’s what the money people would like it to be, that is the problem.

I shouldve phrased that differently - as long as the people are in charge that are in charge then its going to be strewn with bad choices and results

I’m talking about the tsunami of slop that is engulfing the entire internet. I didn’t say it was the technology to blame. Just pointing out that every day we are in a deluge of shit AI. I think that’s hard to refute.

Maybe we’ll go with ā€˜performative slop’

Speaking of AI Slop, I had a good yet sad example of it today.

LinkedIn post in my feed with a ā€˜feel good’ story about George Clooney. Actually really liked it, even bookmarked it. Had lots of likes and reposts. But as I thought about it more, something didn’t totally add up. So I googled it. Was inconclusive. Had to ask Claude and give it multiple prompts, until I could say that it was made-up AI slop. Read some of the comments, and a few people pointed out that it was a copy paste of a made-up story that was circulating the Internet.

So someone prompted AI to write a feel-good story, use George Clooney as the hook, and profited from it on LinkedIn. Made a lot of people believe it.

Just takes an inordinate amount of energy to sort this out. Time few people have. So I’m actually most upset at this idiot wasting everyone’s time and blurring the lines between reality and fantasy just to enrich himself and don’t give a f about humanity.

The world we live in.

At least with the Coca Cola ad I can tell in an instant that it’s AI barf. No energy wasted there.

I think AI needs to start replacing Managers not creatives

I’ve thought about this before and its actually really interesting. I don’t think AI gets us across the uncanny valley, no matter how pixel perfect the output gets to be. It simply expands the uncanny valley so that the entirety of visual media and information becomes uncanny because of the sneaking suspicion that this could have been AI generated, this person may indeed not be a person at all, etc. Its a little bit exhausting to think about, not gonna lie.

A sort of ā€œpoop in the poolā€ if you will. Logically a turd at the bottom of a large pool presents no danger to the swimmers, but psycologically that whole pool is poop now.
