Contact Shadows

Any tips for creating 2D contact shadows?

I’m putting a guy on green screen into a new environment.

I vaguely recall a Logik Live trick using Ambient Occlusion, @andymilkis was that you?

That was me! Make a floor plan in action and turn on AO. then move it up so it intersects with the feet of your guy. You’ll probably have to futz with it with Extended Bicubics, etc, but it makes a great looking contact shadow.

You could also try animating a couple of “negative lights” under the feet over a plane…

Something interesting I noticed when doing some AI tests. AI could be quite good at creating contact shadows if you set it up right.
