Does Flame really need to add Relink functionality to Media? This is a nearly 10-year new feature request issue!!! For us, I think it is very necessary as almost all DCC software has this feature, and Flame cannot be lacking either.
This issue has been discussed in Flame’s new feature request list, but it has still not been implemented. I believe many Flame users are still waiting. This is an important issue worth re discussing.
Path Translation is a good way for Flame to relink offline media, but it also has its limitations. When it is necessary to relink numerous offline media distributed in different locations, it is very inconvenient, and once the Path Translation rule is deleted, the previously offline media will return to the offline state, instead of being able to batch modify the offline media to the correct path through Path Translation. So the best way to reconnect offline media in Library, Reel, Timeline, and Batch is to add Relink functionality.
More than just a simple relink, Flame needs a proper media tool, like any software that wants to call itself a “project-manager”. Something that give us a global view of all the media in a project, allows for bulk relinking, and what matters most to me, relink all instances of an selected clip.
Right now, I’m spending this sunday, and this isn’t some convenient story I’m making up to make myself sound more credible, fixing manually, error by error, in a project moved between machines and where the original paths can’t be replicated. For instance, replacing the same clip across dozens of iterations (it’s faster than unlink/re-conform in each case).
Upvoted, But from what we’ve seen, it doesn’t appear to be a high priority.
You are very smart, but Flame has never had the ability to intelligently Relink Media, so let’s work together to provide suggestions and promote Flame to become more modern and intelligent.
