Drop Shadows are Great

I was talking to a friend about BFX and how I only use it to make overly complex drop shadows to assuage clients, and I’ve gotta say, drop shadows are great.

Just basic boring drop shadows. Sharp ones, soft ones. They’re super effective and they look good.

As to the hate, which is universal amongst clients with opinions on type, I have a theory:

I believe that every young student since 1996 who used one was so shamed in front of the whole class for being a philistine that the collective whole has gone on Emperor’s New Clothes-ing since.

But hey, that fear usually means 4-6 hours of work faffing about, so it’s fine.

Drop Shadows are Awesome.

I’m frequently try to sneak in a traditional one every now and then, but I’m often met with derision.

Moreso than usual?

It depends on if they’ve started drinking yet.

DSaG!!

I’ve never understood the drop shadow hate.

It feels like pure art director elitism.

“You can’t just press a button to make the text readable! You have to earn it.”

Yeah, and it’s such low-effort elitism. It’s not even being snooty about Helvetica v Arial levels of effort. Just a bargain bin opinion.
