Hello Logik friends!

Flame Family 2027.1 Update has been released and is being rolled out to your Autodesk accounts.

As usual, it may take a few more hours (and maybe even days) before the builds appear in your account since they are not being rolled out to everyone in one go.

Highlights include:

  • Support for Apple ProRes RAW in Media Import.

  • A new Isolate tool available as a node and as a Timeline FX. This tool replaces GMask Tracer as the tool to be used to create mattes using Selective objects, Machine Learning models, and GMasks. GMask Tracer is still available, but returns back to its root: being used to create mattes using GMasks.

  • A new Pixel Expression node that can be used to apply colour-based changes to pixels using the GLSL language. Contrary to Matchbox, it is not required to create a shader and a UI outside of Flame to get to a result. The expressions/code can be added directly in the UI.

  • New Machine Learning Upscale models replacing the previously released models. These new models require less memory on Rocky Linux, making it possible to run them on higher-resolution clips, and provide better results on macOS.

  • When navigating from one node to another in Batch, if the newly selected node cannot show the same view as the previously selected node, the viewport temporarily shows a valid input or output view, depending on what was previously shown.

  • Improvements to the Annotations tools and workflow, including a Magnifier tool and support for presets.

  • It is possible to select which channels of a timeline segment to use as the input matte of a Selective in the Source Image Timeline FX.

  • Further improvements have been made to the Atomize object in Action in the form of variation on some parameters, scattering, and seeding.

  • The addition of a user palette in the Colour Picker and the availability of the project and user palettes everywhere a colour source can be generated.

  • Support for custom tokens being resolved in a python hook.

  • The possibility to add tokens to the path of a bookmark from the user interface.

  • Some Timeline improvements requested in the 2026 Logik’s Reverse User Group have been implemented:

    • Select a Segment on Transition navigation / playback end

    • Scoping options when syncing a Timeline FX or a segment marker to connected segments.

  • The content of some non-editable buttons can be added to the OS clipboard using the Copy option in their context menu.

  • A Backburner configuration can be deployed using a JSON file.

  • Support for updated AJA driver, Blackmagic Design Desktop Video, and NDI SDK have been added.

This issue you reported during the beta cycle is still under investigation as we do not get the same exact results as you do on our side.

What aspect was affected by the slowdown?

Rendering is 13% slower, confirmed by ADSK during beta.

That is what we are still running unfortunately due to a series of ongoing foibles with all versions thereafter.

We replicated a slow down on our side, but not in the same way as Alan reported.

The link is not broken. There is always one System Requirements page used for all the releases of a same year.

The link pointing to 2027 / 2027.0.1 on your side is likely a cache issue in your browser since the link works for everybody who tried it on our side.

Curious if the improvements to Atomize include atoms having smaller and larger sizes based on their proximity to the camera, like particles?

You should be able to get what you are looking for using the Perspective and Distance parameters.

Archives from a major version or an update (2027.1) can never be opened in a previous version.

An archive from a service pack (2027.0.1) can usually be opened in its corresponding version (2027) except in very few exceptions.
