I asked for this simple feature in 2015. It’s a toggle.
Participate in this years Reverse User Group, and maybe some other of your suggestions will get implemented in less that a decade timeframe.

@TimC make sure to open either support ticket for the various issues you have listed. Performance might be impacted by so many things so make sure we have all the information needed to repro the issue. Keeping this data buried here will not help us to follow up. Make sure to share ticket ID so we can follow.
