I’m running flame on a mac studio but running out of space. Clearing space and deleting things isn’t helping much. Tried running vic but that isn’t working either not sure what’s happening.
Should I uninstall everything and reinstall? Currently have two versions on my machine and will be updating to 2025 but not sure if I should uninstall and reinstall.
Should I create a partition before installing?
Can I get an external SSD and run everything from the SSD?
Before tackling the vic problem, you mention you have 2 versions. Do you use both of them frequently? Perhaps there’s a large amount of material in an older version you don’t often use.
How is ur machine setup?Single Mac HD and stone is a folder in that? Or you have partitioned it into two drives? or you have an external thunderbolt drive for Stone?
It’s best to partition the drive so you have a Mac OS space and a Flame framestore partition.
We had this issue once, it was a permissions issue. As in one of the component applications (stone&wire, or something) didn’t have permissions to delete files. It happened when we installed Flame originally. I can’t remember how we fixed it. You could try re-installing Flame making sure all the components get permissions as they are installed.
We might have archived everything then blown away the system and reinstalled. I can’t quite remember sorry.
I remember the MacHD have some permission issues in latest versions of MacOS which users are not allowed to fiddle with. its best to split it up and have a 2nd partition where u setup ur Stone.
I was able to archive everything onto an external drive so I uninstalled all versions of flame. I created another volume on the main HD and installed 2025 on it but it wouldn’t launch. So now I’ve reinstalled it on the main HD again but using a temp external drive as framestore. I didn’t try partition, wasn’t sure if it was going to work or how much space I should put aside for it. Also any recommendation for a good budget external drive with decent storage and read/write speed?
As for the partition with the latest version of MacOS you can resize it after you make it, but I normally leave 500gb for the OS and apps and give the rest to the framestore.
As for the install, it used to be that I’d go into System setting and ‘Unlock’ full disk access before I installed Flame. That would mean if I missed a OS alert it was already unlocked. But I don’t think you can do that on Ventura, however we haven’t had the delete media issue for a while.
I’ve set framestore to an external drive. It does feel slow but it was just something I had lying around. I’ll try running the full disk access and then enable them in the Mac setting. Is this the part that will make it so that when I delete something, it gets removed?
