On what difficulty level?

I’m playing on Normal. After beating the first game I put the difficulty up to max to get the “legend of legend of legends” trophy, but I mostly play on Normal.

Once the plot stuff at the end really kicked into overdrive (see what I did there?), I could not stop cackling. I don’t want to go into details as to not spoil the Kojima-ness.

I’m playing Silksong now.

I’m fairly sure I won’t ever finish the game. It’s weird to think about. Is that an issue? Can a game be worth the effort if you don’t win?

If Death Stranding had no story, I’d like it about as much as I do (which is a lot). Elden Ring Nightreign might as well have no story and that’s been great fun for the past few months.

So here I am, hopping my way through Silksong, pretty sure I’ll never get to the end, and enjoying it. It reminds me of games from my youth. I’m currently stuck in an area that feels like the end of Ecco the Dolphin. The whole vibe is very Faxanadu, with you climbing up and up through a massive world. I love it.

Hades 2 hit 1.0 a week or two ago. It’s only on PC and Switch 2 so far. I bit the bullet and plugged a PS5 controller into my PC. It’s fantastic so far!

Small self-serving update after that last post of mine waxed so poetically about whether or not the journey can have value if you don’t make it to the destination.

I made it to that fucking destination. All bosses beaten, all items collected, all monsters found, true ending achieved. Goddamn is Silksong a good game. It has some of the most insane challenges in any game, and repeatedly I would find myself dying over and over, but not being mad. Happy to jump back in and try again. While very different in gameplay, it felt like doing “just one more delivery” in Death Stranding. The joy is playing, so it’s even fun to lose.

Hollow knight and silksong are their own beasts, unique to all of the other games out there , no hand holding and rewarding gameplay, and a fair price to boot, glad you stuck it out

Totally and it’s insane that it’s the work of just a handful of people. There are more voice actors than developers in the credits.

I will say “stuck it out” is the wrong turn of phrase for me. Before I started the game I’d say that phrase sounded apt. I’ve “stick it out” on plenty of games (Metaphor Refantasio comes to mind…). Despite Silksong creating many scenarios that should feel bad, there was no point where I felt frustrated. Even the infamous High Halls gauntlet–which I died in for hours–felt fun. It’s a remarkable achievement to make that amount of failure an enjoyable experience.

The moment to moment gameplay is so good. Every jump, every attack, every movement is so good that the idea of fighting the same dozen waves of enemies over and over is a good time. Boss runbacks become fun. It feels like a refinement of me as a player as much as it is the action platformer as a genre. The last game that did this for me was Seikro, mentioned way up at the top of this thread.

I can’t say it’s a game for everyone, but at $20, it’s worth everyone trying it out and making that call for themselves.

Late reply, but Hades 2 was amazing. I’ll probably buy it again whenever it eventually comes out on PS5, or maybe on Switch 2 if I end up being weak and getting a Switch 2 for the new Metroid game.

I can’t stop playing ARC Raiders. It’s my first ever extraction shooter. I have a love/hate relationship with it, but keep coming back. The atmosphere is amazing…very Half Life but with looting and PVP, and you never can quite tell whether to trust another player or not. Sometimes it’s fine. Sometimes they act all buddy buddy on local voice chat, then shoot you in the back at the level exit and take all your loot. The robots are really satisfying to shoot, though!

Oh, man! I farmed 2 Anvil BPs in 3 or 4 runs from raider caches on the NE corner of Dam Battlegrounds. There’s one hidden at the broken end of the elevated highway that’s great. You have to drop down into it. HTH!

I clipped through the map mid-fight on stella and proceeded to mess with people the rest of the round
