Does anyone know of a way to convert mattes to a gmask or gmask tracer shape?
I can do it with Furnace matte to roto, but it’s quite long winded and when I import the resulting gmask into the tracer, it comes in as a 3D text node, with no control over the shape.
I was hoping there may be a matchbox that does this.
This would be a powerful tool to have, but last time I checked, there wasn’t such a thing in Flame. And I don’t think MX has the capability of creating splines.
There was a kind of a Flame research project presented by Will Harris at logic live session #32 starting at about 50min of the video. An alpha to GMASK extract method was part of it. Was this ever since introduced?
Not a fully automatic mode, but quite workable if you want… Took me about 5min.
Once you have your matte (I did a quick key on the lips of this RED sample clip - not the best key by any means):
Add a Mocha node to the matte output. In Mocha use the magnetic tool to follow the outline of your matte. Track it. Export it as GMask Tracer.
Import it.
Might want to clean up the magnetic spline to have fewer control points, unwieldy otherwise… But that’s a different matter.
This is great to know.
If you have mocha.
