I have the same issue here when we have a folder with multiple variant.
I don’t understand why a dummy token can’t work it out.
I had to block it with a specified variant name in the pattern browsing. And it’s true that nuke studio can deal with it.

If Pattern Browsing doesn’t take Regular Expressions, I would write a simple watch folder script that scans the directory changes and creates an OpenClip with the relevant versions using this script:

Yes fully functional workflow is not possible.
But you can use pattern based open clips on multi layer openEXRs, if that has any utility.
