Social media auto-reformat?

I spent years trying not to break the segment connections by creating blank social aspect ratio timelines and copying all my tracks into them.

Then I realised that breaking that connection is exactly what you want to do. Because your reformatted edits are then connected to each other but not to the original. So you can sync all the connected segments and all your resizes etc sync across the edits of that ratio only.

We work on our comps ungraded and write out to grading named as “shot name” with no version number. We get grading to render back to us and always overwrite the same render files. With all deliverables built from these uncached graded renders then you don’t need to rely on segment connections to keep your media in sync across the edits. It works like magic.

I’m revising comp shots across all spots and all ratios sometimes minutes before I ship. I need the changes to ripple through every spot. In my world grading is done before comping and all my material is cached.

Yeah so my approach won’t work for you in that scenario unfortunately.

I’m curious as to what you do if a resize changes in one version, can you not use sync connected segments as it’ll mess up all your other aspect ratios?

So you’re just using the connections to keep the media in sync?

Correct, just for media. Connections are not perfect in that regard. I suggested the be customised for TLFX as well, but it’s a big ask.

Yep. Source connections and TLFX connections should be two separate things.

I think if I was working with the grade done first I’d still have a master timeline where I update the comp versions and then publish the shots out to a directory with the version numbers removed so I could create all my deliverables from that media. Then it’s just one publish overwrite to update the media in all versions and the segment connections are maintained for syncing timeline effects.
