You've Been Burn'd Ep22: So Simple, Yet So Far Away.. AKA 'Fuque You Flame'

Thank you, Fred. Really appreciate your attention.

Hey @fredwarren if you have a second I would love to get a little more color on this, mostly out of curiosity.

The reason this bug is so fascinating to me is that it seems to involve what I would have imagined were two relatively independent pieces of Flame. One being, what Iā€™ll call in laymanā€™s terms, the image renderer and the other being the display renderer. I of course donā€™t understand how any of this works, but I would imagine that the image render is passed to the display render in a typical situation. This bug seems to work in the opposite direction with the display getting passed ā€œbackwardsā€ to the image render. That leads me to believe all my assumptions about this are wrong.

What is the relationship between how the image is rendered and how the display is rendered? Also since there may be additional GUI corruption bugs out there, would they be related to the specific issue that Alan reported or is it possible that there is an entirely distinct issue causing more or less the same problem?

Well said @GPM. Thanks for sharing. Iā€™m sorry I went too far. Definitely not trying to police anything. Iā€™m nitpicking a good friend of mine and being a complete knob. Whenever I see these kinds of threads I get really frustrated because as a user, this kinda stuff keeps me from going home on time. And then when I think about Montreal, they must be equally as frustrated because this bug has been around for a while and its only now on their radar. Iā€™m under perhaps the naive impression that the more we are a team about these things weā€™ll all get what we want sooner.

I do not have a good enough technical knowledge of how everything is working to properly answer your question. What I can do is summarize what I understood about the problem: the software was expecting something, didnā€™t get it so it had to use whichever was available to render the image and it ended up with a part of the user interface display being passed.

No. There can be many different unrelated ways to get a graphic corruption like this. That being said, a single fix could indeed fix many of them at once. Hopefully this was the last one (which is possible).

I believe you have to have a current subscription to join Beta

@johnag is correct.

Users must have an active subscription or be employed by a company that has an active subscription to be eligible for the Flame beta program.

The beta program is definitely not a way to get a free license of Flame.

Moreover, we require beta users to participate in the beta program activities and provide feedback.

Best,
Yann

Dear Flame community- Alan and I (mostly Alan because I gave up) spend hundreds of hours a year bug reporting, making videos, and participating in Flame development. The Frustration you hear in Alan is the shear number of pretty large issues that we have to deal with to try and get shots done. Every once in awhile Alan has to vent or he would loose his mind. So please cut him some slack and realize that he has earned the right to make constructive criticism of Flame. Thanks! Jesse

Everyone acknowledges Alan and Jesseā€™s contribution to the Flame community.

The well-being of the Flame users is a priority for the team, and we are extremely sensitive to their frustration.

Remember that each individual reacts differently when discussions become emotional and passionate. While certain can keep a cool head, others may respond irrationally.

That is why the choice of words and their expression is somehow important.

Generally speaking, people rarely go above and beyond to help you when you use offensive language, no matter the situation. It is human nature.

Thanks @Jesse! Well said. Iā€™m inspired by your commitment. We may have different approaches but we are absolutely on the same team.
