Thank you, Alan.
I find it really strange that Boris decided to cut out the eyes and ears… that is negatively helpful. Does anyone have a contact there I can talk with instead of going thru support?
Try reaching out to @marcopaolini. He’s a member here, and part of the Boris team.
Thanks, Alan, for putting together the video.
One important point to note is that the initial track can sometimes contain slight inaccuracies. To achieve the best results, it’s often helpful to add a Deformer with anchor points that use our ML point tracker to refine areas where the track may be slipping. This additional refinement can make a significant difference in ensuring that paint and roto work remain firmly locked to the subject.
Regarding the eyes and ears, both were included during development. However, the ear placement was not consistently accurate, and the eyes introduced visual artifacts during the unwrap/rewrap process. Because of these issues, they were removed from this release.
We can certainly look into adding them back in a future version, but we would first need to address the eye artifacts. Even then, some manual adjustment of the ear controls would likely be required to achieve the desired placement. Another challenge with the eyes is determining how they should behave when the pupils move rapidly or dart around independently.
That said, one possible approach would be to make the ears and nose optional features that you can enable or disable as needed.
@marcopaolini Hi Marco,
Thank you for the response. I don’t even care if the eyes/ears are accurately tracked, and I don’t care if they even have accurate geometry, I just don’t want holes. Fill it in with flat polygons for all I care.
Alan
That’s certainly doable.
Really great video – thank you.
Something very similar works with Meshwarp in MochaPro. In fact I have an outstanding feature request for Mocha to natively export the STMap instead of the front.
The same could be expanded to Silhouette. Build STMap export for unwrap/rewrap right into the tools.
That would be the logical progression. @marcopaolini
I’ve been told by the Boris team on their forums that ability to export the head tracked mesh is something they planned to add as export in probably alembic, but they didn’t have time to add it in this release, so apperntly its something for the near future. That should be very helpful.
