hi all. it’s been a while since i did this . i have a 720frame 23.98 30 second master that needs to deliver at 25p (750 frames) . am i still ml time warping each shot to match a time warped reference, or has there been some new magic i’m not aware of ?

It’s not too often I’m in this specific situation but in my experience, 9 times out of 10, when we’re asked to deliver a 29.97 deliverable from a 23.98 master (a much more common scenario for me than your 25p one), we can timewarp set to mix on the exported 23.98 master to get it to that deliverable framecount / framerate and that’s all they’re looking for. If they’re actually looking for it to be 25p (which rules out PAL pulldown) with no duplicated frames, then I think timewarping each shot is the only other option in my mind.
If there was already an expectation of delivering some of the job at 23.98, I’ve seen most deliverable spec sheets specify that they want their stuff at whatever framerate for which it was originally intended.
If you still have a timeline and not a baked clip, I would render my 23.98 timeline, change the timecode of the timeline to 25fps, tw my rendered clip to fill the new 30 seconds and use that as a reference. I would pull my handles out to re-align with the cuts on the new reference. Audio should be fine for a 30 second spot, or a 60 with no lipsync. Longer than that and the audio may need a rate conversion.

Good to be reminded of this workflow as I too rarely work in 23.98fps, normally working at 25fps.
A follow up question, when you output social versions, do you keep the frame rate and output at 23.98fps mp4 for youtube/instagram/tiktok?
all i have is a prores hd generic, so no extra frames to play with
When faced with these circumstances, I TW it to fit and send it out the door. I seldom see complaints. If there are, I let producers sort it out. You shouldn’t be expected to make shinola from shit.
a good question . i have always delivered us spots at 23.98 for social sizes and maybe if a spot is mastered in the uk at 25p then you deliver socials at 25p ? then tiktok works it out on there end ?
