Is it possible to get a single SDI UHD/4k feed from flame with an AJA 3 and K3G breakout box? It looks to me like 4xhd Quads is the only way, but wanted to check with the Hive Mind!

No. You would need 12G for this, which is only available in more recent cards like Kona 5 (macOS & Linux) and T-Tap Pro (on macOS).
Also, keep in mind that the AJA driver used by the current versions of Flame Family products does not support Kona 3 cards since many moon.
