Ads in New York must now label AI-generated ‘synthetic performers’

As long as they don’t care about inpainting or mattes, I’m good.

Does that include blue pills?

Wow. A whole thousand dollars . . .

It would be a lot for the advertisers using AI Generated dreck I see on YouTube. The article doesn’t explain what a violation means. If it means $5K for each time it runs, that could be a pretty penny for even a high end broadcast spot.

I definitely interpreted it as every time it runs. Can’t see what “second offense” or whatever would mean otherwise

How does one even measure “runs” on social media?

Plays or views.

By that standard you could run up tens of millions of dollars in fines before you even receive a take-down notice.

Exactly!!

It seems unrealistic.

I think in a world where the platforms have your credit card or bank acct info, it might be easier to implement.

I can see this maybe working for broadcast spots, but not for social media.

The NY regs seem to me to be odd — and who are the humans who have the job of actually monitoring and policing this?

It also seems like a slippery slope, and fairly arbitrary. It’s like requiring that every shot in a production that is a comp and not in-camera, you have to put a “VISUAL EFFECTS USED” graphic on it.

To me it seems like performative political theater — “Hey, we’re doing something about it!”
