Codecs: Wich Version supports H265 (HEVC)?

The title says it all…

Which version of flame will support H265 (HEVC)?

Thanks in advance

Hi Chris,

Flame does not support H265 yet.

There is no ETA we can share about when H265 will be supported in Flame at the moment.

Best,
Yann

Thx, Yann!

Are there any updates with this? Thx

To be able to decode h.265 media files, you need MediaReactor plugin. See drastic.tv for more details.

Hello from 2024… Any update to this? The plugin is almost $500usd :-1:

and basically un-maintained.

I’m hoping Media Encoder will convert?

Confirming Media Encoder works perfectly.

I think shutter encoder works quite well also

Sorry to hash up this old subject, but running into lack of support for HEVC files. Tried to install Drastic trial on Rocky 9.3 and it seems to be a no go. We have 30+ minute files so converting through Media Encoder isn’t ideal

Anyone have any other good solutions? Otherwise might have to go into Premiere to cut up clips to use in Flame. Which is unfortunately when you need a $50 program to use a 4k one

FFMPEG

Thanks Phil! That would be a decode option outside of Flame, right?

@Dwklink - Happy Friday Klink.
You could write scripts to do this outside of flame.
You could also write a python script to send these tasks to burn, and have the results show up in your flame libraries.

thanks Phil. luckily we don’t have too many clips as of now to deal with. so we’re transcoding them as needed by hand. just seems like a waste of time, space, energy, etc etc. would be much easier if Flame could play them. or we could still pay for a way for flame to play them.

@Dwklink - open a web browser and open microsoft copilot.

Here’s a prompt that may get you a result:

I am using rocky linux 9.3 and FFMPEG
Write me a bash script that converts source_file which is an HEVC movie, to target_file which is a ProRes 4444 movie file.
Ensure to retain the dimensions and frame rate from the source_file.

Test the result.

If it checks out add another prompt:
Modify my script to perform this operation on every HEVC file in this directory.

Save.

Run - and I don’t mean execute the script, I mean run, just run away, the job isn’t fun any more - find a new life in the off world colonies, your chance to begin again in a golden world of opportunity and adventure.

Or go to Mars.

Or recall - they’re having a halloween special.

Wait you can do that?!? WT#?

At least we can make use of the computers before they kill us all.

@Dwklink - i know right?

I thought large language models were for really useful, society changing stuff like “draw me a picture of an elephant, wearing a tiny hat, balancing a suitcase on it’s nose, while cycling on a tightrope over the grand canyon”

But I was wrong - it’s more about genetic discovery, protein folding, and eliminating 5,000,000 software engineering jobs.

Oh, and making full motion videos “of an elephant, wearing a tiny hat, balancing a suitcase on it’s nose, while cycling on a tightrope over the grand canyon”

Words and pictures are so yesterday.

Slightly related… if you’re a podcast kinda guy, give this a listen:

@Dwklink - I always like the work of Neal Stephenson, particularly The Diamond Age.
I’m swamped by podcasts - mostly about the recovery of the UK after being gaslit for the last 14 years, and about our upcoming elections here at home.
I want to turn it all off and listen to Bootsy Collins or Beethoven.
