Convert a Timeline based project into a node based project (Batch)

Hello,

I was working with low intensity on a timeline‑only project at my school and never touched the batch environment. Even though every task could be performed in the timeline, I have the impression that I should have taken the risk to “jump” into batch, but I hesitated because the conversion seemed irreversible.

Question:

If I convert this project into a Node-based project, will some features in the timeline no longer be available?

.

Thank you!

PS:

Currently, the project is inactive due to the “license stop” from fxphd. However, on July 16, 2025, I received the following email from fxphd.com with the subject:

“Autodesk software is returning to fxphd. More news soon. Stay tuned”

Wondering what “soon” means….

I was always a big fan of explode.

It was a lonely place.

Hey Joe!
When you mean “timeline based” do you mean you’re doing things in BFX, and want to try out “big batch” or are you just doing a bunch of timeline fx and want to promote them to either BFX or batch?

Either way, you can convert into batch by doing the following:

  1. Select all the layers of a shot you want promoted to batch

2. Create a BFX but make sure to select “selection as flowgraph”.

3. Once you’re in BFX, you’ll probably have to clean up some rogue comp nodes that Flame has put in there.
If that’s as far as you need to take it, great! You’re done! However, if you want to promote to big batch, do the following:
Select all your nodes and right click select “Create BFX”
That will consolidate everything into a single node. Take that node and put it into one of the schematic reels of a batch group. Launch “batch” and select the BFX node you put in the schematic. Right click it and select “explode FX”. Now all your nodes will be available in “Big Batch”!

Good luck!
