Deform Mesh back to 2d

Hello friends… Not sure what version made this change the default, but does anyone know how to make a deform mesh default to a 2d square, and not the current 3d cube that populates when you drag it out? Also noticing that it doesn’t auto-link to my selected surface… My work around is having a 2d version in my user bin, but that’s a drag when I’m in the middle of work in action.

Can you copy the 2D version from one Action to the other?

That is not expected behaviour. Do you set your surface type to ext-bicubic? That might help when adding a deform node from the bin.

The deform cage should automatically fit over the surface/geometry you add it to.

Hi Rob! Make sure your surface is selected by double clicking it so the deform mesh parents to it (rather than adding the deform mesh to your schematic and then parenting it to your surface after the fact). Then it should be 2D and aligned to your surface.

Wow… it’s so finicky. yes, that works, but you must to it in that exact order… adding a node with a right-click and pulldown menu doesn’t do it, nor does double clicking the node from the bin with the surface selected… it MUST be surface selected, and then a drag out from the bin in schematic view. Yikes. Thanks for the trouble shooting!!

If you select the surface’s parent axis and double click from the node bin it should work as well. It should be noted though that the deform mesh is never truly 2d. Even when it is in “2d mode” there are still two points at each vertex.
