Zero school or post secondary education
Received a 4 year degree in film/tv which wasn’t your typical film school, normal 4 year college. Upon graduation worked at some post houses as a runner, then worked my way up to be a tape operator for the Henry and Inferno artists.
Then the “big break” came when I got a job as a tape operator for the flame artists at Digital Domain. Spent many many nights after work reading the thick inferno manual and teaching myself. Became a Roto artist for a while then moved onto compositing. I learned Nuke when it wasn’t available to the public and learned a ton. After a few years at DD I took the jump and freelanced. A lot of ups and downs, a lot of hard work but I’m glad I went that route. Met a lot of great people along the way that I still talk to till this day.
As always Renee…thanx for the mention! You’re a huge talent!
I did Mediatechnology (engineering) .
Gave me great fundamental knowledge,I think it really helped me just to learn how to learn.
Took me
like 23 semesters to finish though as I was always doing my own stuff , but college is free so whatever
When I was 10 my mum (mom) bought me a super 8 camera. I filmed everything! From spiders eating flys to all my cousins weddings, engagements Christenings etc. (I’m greek and have lots of cousins)
I didn’t like school much cause I think the bullying got to me and anyhow all I was interested in was filming stuff and becoming a “cameraman” at the local TV station. I wanted to leave at year 10 but only if I got into a film school.
The Australian Film and TV School were starting up a technical traineeship and the intake was 4 students every 3 years. You can imagine how excited I was when I was accepted. I was the youngest student ever to go there. It was like on the job training and I got paid for it!. I spent 6 months in each major department. Studio, Tapes/editing Sound, Colour and OB’s. Seriously I was like a kid in a lollie (candy) shop. Whilst spending 3 years at the school I also did a tech college course where I learnt the theory of TV and what a group of grain is called… glumps
After the 3 years I sent my resume to all the companies I wanted to work for. Unbelievably they all wanted me to start immediately. I was so flattered!
I chose the largest post facility (because they had the most toys). I spent the first few years there soaking up knowledge from all the seniors.
Anyhow, this forum title is “did you go to school”. 40ish years later I can happily say that I’m still learning and Logik is my current School.
Thanks everyone for answering my questions!!!
Tell me you don’t live in the USA without telling me you don’t live in the USA. Haha.
