Flame Family 2026 on Linux, system requirements

Hi!
I see that for the flame 2026, the minimum gpu is the Nvidia Quadro P series.
I’m looking to do a clean install of my rocky linux, so before completely formatting my drive, I wanted to know if I would be able to install Flame even if my system doesn’t meet most of the requirements, expecially in GPU.

Okay nice thanks !

yep

It will likely work, but support may be less inclined to help you if it doesn’t. Worth the gamble.

My flame install worked,
I just had this issue when launching the installer :

[eytane@vxfhost Downloads]$ cd autodesk_flame_2026_LINUX64/
[eytane@vxfhost autodesk_flame_2026_LINUX64]$ sudo ./INSTALL_FLAME
[sudo] password for eytane:

Finished my full reinstall!
Everything was relatively smooth, except for my Windows bootloader partition getting deleted for no reason (). I haven’t tried Flame extensively, but it seems to be all good.

I was just installing my BorisFX tools, and I can’t activate my license since it is activated on my Windows (I’m in a dual boot situation, so the MAC address, etc., is the same).
Would there be a way to activate the license on both my Linux and Windows, since I can only use one at a time? I was thinking of contacting BorisFX to explain my situation.

One thing I learned many years ago re multiple boot machines, have each `OS on a separate disk and disconnect when doing any re-installs

Yes ! And I did that, linux and windows are on seperate disks, and when reinstalling linux my windows drive was physically unplugged.
It happened once everything was done, and the installation media disconnected.

I looked it up and didn’t really find anything for such a weird issue. Might be a confusion at the BIOS level ..

If you make linux partitions choosing carefully the target disk during linux installing , there is no need to unplug disks. And choosing the apropiatte custom entry with adsk iso installer, sure. (“install linux with manual partitioning”.

In fact, grub check all plugged disks when it’s installed, and it adds the appropiatte entry, Your grub does not have windows entry because the disk was unpluged. So, it’s not a weird issue. It’s the expected behaviour.

You have three options: Add a configure a manual entry in grub, force grub to check again all disks to force add a new entry, or restart pressing the appropiatte key to entry in the classic bios fast disk selection to boot in windows again.

First option should be easy, but used to be tricky.
Second should be easy too, but if you don’t find the right guide you may make a mistake that will make the system unbootable. I know how rebuild grub. because it’s needed to unistall the nouveau driver for other installations (not needded using the custom iso) but I am not sure if it’s the right one for these case.
The third option is not the most comfortable, but it is the safest way.

The only way to do this is a Boris floating license.

You need at least 5 licenses though before BorisFX lets you use floating licenses.

You need to release the license before you boot into the other OS. There’s no limit in how often you can move the license between systems. Everyone does that all the time, and it’s officially sanctioned. It’s a lot easier though if you forget and the license is just on another system. In a dual boot situation, if you forgot to release it, you get the a two reboot penalty.

You can reset the license on the BorisFX site to force it, but you’re only allowed to do that once a month.

I didn’t think of releasing it from the host in fact, thanks for the tip.
Would it be worth it to try and reach out to the support for this dual boot situation?

yes.

No harm in asking.

But I’m pretty certain that there answer is the same, because what I wrote is based on statements they have made on Logik Live and elsewhere.

Unless they changed their rules lately.

No, Flame Support will not help you on your home made custom configuration with dual boot. Google will be your friend while our Support agents take your ticker related to issues with our products.

I do have a Linux configuration where I use multiple SSD for various Linux and Windows version and bios is able to let me boot the right OS.You might need to manually select the drive you need to boot from to be able to boot. But as I wrote, you will need to find solution on the web.

Ah gotcha, just to clarify, I was actually talking about BorisFX support for the licensing stuff
I know I’m not on certified hardware, so if I run into Flame/OS issues it’s totally on me, no expectations there. Thanks for the heads-up though!

And for the dual boot situation, it’s all sorted out, I use indeed the bios’s boot device selection menu instead of going for GRUB.

Ah! Sorry, i got confused

Happy that you figured out the booting issue.
