It is with a very heavy heart that I have to inform that a great Flame artist and close friend Johnny Fegan passed away last night. Johnny was a tremendously talented and generous member of this community.
I’ll know funeral details soon.

Oh that’s so tragic.
And with a new baby on the way too.
Huge loss.
So sorry to hear that.
Condolences to all friends and family. He had had an operation recently if memory serves me right.
Big loss for the community.
So sad to hear that news. Flame on @feganflamer
Wow, what a sad shock. I saw the title and was hoping it wouldn’t be this. Rest in peace @feganflamer
Hi friends. I’ve gone ahead and created a Gofundme for John’s family. He is survived by his wife, Gretchen, who is expecting their second child, and their two year old son, DJ.

Just awful, awful news. He was so young!!! It seems like just yesterday we were all running around at NAB.
Yep, and I had the ignominious honor of lighting his hair on fire in a casino.
So very sorry to hear.
I was waiting for the appropriate time to bring that one up ![]()

Not the kind of news we were expecting to start the new year with. Simply heartbreaking. John was so fun and genuine. I’ll keep fond memory of him.
I’ve been thinking all day of what to say here. If you know Johnny, you know his spirit. I’ll share two things-
We came back from NAB and his flame room had a flame pillow just like the one at the Autodesk NAB suite. On that same trip, on the way out, he had two suitcases. I was like, dude, why two suitcases for three days? The second one was full of our company t-shirts he would give to any flame artist we saw.
We were driving around getting random shots of Dallas for the AICP reel. We were at the Maverick’s arena and there was a guy on a cherry picker changing some banners. Johnny gave him 20 bucks and the guy let Johnny on the rig with his camera and even operated it up slowly so we got a great booming shot of the skyline.
I don’t even know what to say, just really sad with this news!
Johnny and I had been in touch over the past few weeks, planning to meet after the New Year. I was waiting to hear from him, and hearing this news was heartbreaking. My condolences to his family and everyone who loved him.
Hi All. There’s a new link for the Zoom that’s starting in an hour. Apologies for any confusion, but we got zoom-bombed once way back, and just to be safe I created a new link that requires registration. Here’s the link:
Thanks, and I’ll see you in an hour,
Andy
Thanks everyone who joined and thanks @andymilkis for organizing.
Some say the definition of a community is recognizing those as they arrive, and recognizing those as they leave. I take comfort knowing that kinda stuff happens here. A lot.
If you have any photos of John, please share them here.
In his honor, I have promoted @feganflamer to 32bit status on the forums.
Render in peace brotha.
Angels, where you soar
Up to God’s own light,
Take my own lost bird
On your hearts tonight;
And as grief once more
Mounts to heaven and sings,
Let my love be heard
Whispering in your wings.

This news is deeply saddening.
Humanity has lost a brilliant, genuine, fun, and energetic individual.
Johnny and I often teased each other about which American football team was the best. The Green Bay Packers were tattooed on his heart, while they were my least favorite team.
My thoughts are with his wife and family during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, my friend.
Truly gutted by this sad revelation.
What an absolute gem of an individual. John was a kind and genuine person, alongside his remarkable talent. A combination of qualities that feel increasingly rare these days.
I always enjoyed and looked forward to our interactions over the years. Sending love to his family.
