Dollface, A2Beauty, crok_beauty — they’re all good in their ways for sure. But in my experience, they’re a fallback, or for wide shots, etc. You can’t match beauty artists doing fine, custom work on talent…
Thanks phil (: I am indeed busy af and haven’t even tried 2027 yet… I did port dollface to Houdini’s new comp system which uses OpenCL rather than GLSL and realised it could be improved in the process, the way I was calculating the colour difference weight gives a pretty smooth result in the Flame version but you can’t crank it up high to really flatten the colour for more drastic changes. Someone else posted a similar bilateral filter here which might be worth borrowing the weight lines from if someone’s feeling the need for a mega-plastic-looking filter: Archived post by vanity_ibex – Houdini-and-Chill
Ha - no no, not at all but bilateral filters like dollface are useful for cleaning up textures or doing non-photorealistic cartoon shading stuff as well as beauty!
If anyone’s curious Houdini’s new COPS 3 aka Copernicus nodes are great for texture creation, fun for writing GPU shaders entirely inside the app and you can do really fast GPU smoke and cloud sims with them but despite being for “compositing” there’s no paint, roto, masking, tracking, really anything you’d need to finish shots… not something 2D people need to be considering using for a few years yet I don’t think. Also playback from disk in there is somehow worse than Nuke if you can believe that
