No audio output with DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K on Mac Studio (Flame)

Hi everyone :waving_hand:

I have a small question and I hope someone here might be able to help. I’ve already searched the forums and previous threads, but I couldn’t find a clear answer or solution to this problem.

I’m running Autodesk Flame on a Mac Studio M4, and everything works well overall. I’m using a Blackmagic DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K for monitoring and the video output works perfectly :movie_camera:.

However, I cannot get any audio from Flame through it :muted_speaker:.

I’m a bit confused about what I should set in the audio settings. No matter what configuration I try, I can’t seem to get audio working.

If I set the output to Blackmagic, I get the video on my monitor but the monitor itself has no built-in speakers, so I have no sound at all.

I also tried switching to NDI and Core Audio to get the audio through the system output, but that doesn’t seem to work either. I’m clearly missing something but I can’t figure out what .

Would anyone be able to explain the correct setup?
Or maybe share a screenshot of the default / working audio settings in Flame? :camera_with_flash:

Right now I’m a bit lost with this

Thanks in advance for any help! :folded_hands:

I’d check this under User / Players & Monitoring

So, outputting video over Blackmagic means you need to output your audio via Blackmagic too. So, you’ll need to run the SDI out of the Mini Monitor to a de-embedder like the Blackmagic SDI to Audio and to a Mackie Big KNob or something and then to studio monitors.

It is not possible to send video and audio through separate paths..as in…Blackmagic video out to a monitor and Mac system audio.

Super simple solution. NDI out of Flame. Capture the NDI locally on the Flame via Ultragrid. Set Ultragrid’s video preview to your Decklink and audio preview to whichever core audio device on the Mac you want to use. Then hit start.

Hi cnoellert,

Thanks a lot for the explanation — I really appreciate the help.

Would you mind detailing a bit more precisely what I should set on each side?

More specifically:

  • What should I configure in the Flame Setup panel (outside of Flame)?

  • And what exactly should I set inside Flame for the video/audio output?

  • And finaly in Ultragrid ?

At the moment I still can’t get the audio to work, so I’m probably missing something in the routing.

If you have a moment, could you explain the steps a bit more in detail or maybe describe the exact settings you’re using? That would really help me understand how the whole setup works.

In any case, I’m making progress thanks to your suggestion, so thank you again for your help!

Best,

Here’s the settings in the Setup:

Then in Flame:

Lastly you just need to make sure that you have a clip with audio. I’ve already sent you a screen cap of the settings in Ultragrid but I marked on up here just incase. I currently have my embedded BMD audio device selected so pick one for the list that make sense for you.

Hope this helps a little.
